Food Relief
Dinner in a Bag/Food Relief Enterprise: Our Dinner in a Bag initiative has been a lifeline for many families in our community, offering affordable and nutritious meal options to help stretch their weekly food budget. For just $7.00, families can purchase a meal kit containing enough ingredients to feed 4-6 people. With food insecurity being a significant issue for many families, this program not only provides financial relief but also ensures they can enjoy wholesome and filling meals.
Throughout the year, we've introduced new short-run meal options to add variety and excitement to our menu. Popular choices have included beef stroganoff and pasta, quarter ham pieces with vegetables, pulled beef with potato chips and garlic bread, and a meatball and vegetable meal. These additions have received glowing feedback from families who appreciate the assistance in providing nourishing meals for their loved ones.
Food Parcels: Our food parcel program has seen an overwhelming demand this year as more families seek assistance in accessing essential groceries. Every second Friday, we distribute food parcels consisting of pantry staples and fresh produce at a nominal cost of $5.00 per parcel. Additionally, during school holiday breaks, we include activity packs filled with puzzles, word games, coloring sheets, and fun recipes to provide extra support to families facing financial constraints.
Partnership with OzHarvest: We are grateful for our partnership with OzHarvest, a food rescue organisation dedicated to reducing food waste and hunger in our community. Through this partnership, we receive regular donations of fresh produce and pantry items, which enable us to expand our food relief efforts and reach more families in need. OzHarvest's contributions play a vital role in ensuring that our food relief programs remain sustainable and impactful.
Christmas Hampers: During the festive season, we extend our support by gifting special Christmas hampers to families receiving food parcels. These hampers, generously provided by Bonnie and The Sisterhood of Clontarf, contain a delightful selection of Christmas treats, including plum puddings, cakes, custard, mince pies, biscuits, and chocolates. The gesture is warmly welcomed by recipients and adds joy to their holiday celebrations.
